Pre-operative nursing is one of the many different areas of nursing you can slide into with an associate or bachelor degree in nursing. Many hospitals hire newly graduated nurses for pre-op, post-op, or OR (operating room) positions.

The most common way of becoming a pre-op nurse would be to attend a credited medical school which offers an operating room nurse program and apply, if you are accepted and pass all of your required classes you should be a pre-op nurse.

You will need to become a Registered Nurse, or RN, first. To do that, you must attend either a community college or a university and follow the course guide for the RN program. A counselor at either school should be able to tell you if there are classes recommended specifically for pre-op nurses.

To be a pre-op nurse, you need to be an RN with at least a two-year degree and some experience. You need to take classes on perioperative nursing, available at many hospitals. Working nurses take such classes to be ready when a pre-op nursing job opens up.

First to become a pre-op nurse you have to attend a nursing school, then while attending that school you would have to recieve extra classes specialized in the area you want. Specialization of degree you would want in pre op nursing comes with classes that you recieve while you are attending nursing school.
