Area should be cleaned with alcohol at least 4 times a day. Keep clothing away from the piercing area. Make sure area is clean before piercing. Make sure piercing utensil is sterile. Use ice to take swelling down after piercing. Cover with large bandaid when wearing clothing. Go to a licensed establishment for piercing.

Keep the are very clean. Don't wear any clothing near the belly button until the site clears. Jeans with a metal button will aggravate the area. If you are allergic to any metal, be sure none goes near the area. If you start to get a discharge from the area, see a doctor.

One of the best ways to avoid infection is to keep it clean. Also use an over the counter triple antibiotic ointment at least twice a day.
