Difficulty swallowing can be a symptom of anxiety. An anxious person may have a fear of choking or feel like there is constantly a lump that is stuck in their throat.

When a person feels anxious they can often experience difficulty in swallowing. It can cause a choking feeling. It feels like something is stuck in your throat. Your throat muscles tense up and it can feel like if you actually do swallow you will choke.

Many times when you are anxious you get dry mouthed. Conversely, you might swallow more. This in turn can feed into the anxiety you are feeling. Try to take some deep breaths, and if you can walk away for a few moments, do so.
