From where did the largest group of U.S. immigrants come?

The largest group of U. S. immigrants came from Ireland during the potato famine. Several other large groups came at different periods such as Italians, French, Eastern Europeans and Germany, but the largest influx at one time was with the Irish. The Irish settled in New York and the other nearby states that bordered the Great Lakes like Ohio.
