Does it hurt dogs when trimming their nails?

I don't know how my dog feels about this, or if there is a good way to do it.

If done correctly it will not hurt nor injure a dog when trimming the nails. There are many dog nail trimming tools available on the market, some of these are equipped with a nail stop so you do not trim the nail too far and hit live nerve endings. If you are unsure how far to trim as your vet.

Dogs nails have blood vessels in them, so if you cut down to the quik it will hurt and bleed. Get vet or groomer to show you how to trim

If done correctly it won't hurt. Clip only the tip, and trim frequently. Don't cut too much or you will hit the quick. If you don't hit the quick, it shouldn't hurt. Give your dog praise, a hug, and a treat when she cooperates. Take her for frequent walks, for exercise, and to let the nails wear down naturally.

Correct nail trimming does not hurt dogs, just like with humans. You must be careful not to cut the quick, which is a vein in the dog's nail.
