Does Gmail have a return receipt option, for example can gmail users that emailed me know when when I opened their email?

While Gmail doesn't have that feature native to the program, there are other ways to enable that service through other services. One way is to use Mozilla Thunderbird as your client and run Gmail through that program. Instructions for doing that are on the web if you search it.

I have gmail and as far as i know, no. A feature like this would be great though. Haven't we all wondered if the person we sent the mail to got it and did they read it?

On the webmail version, that is not possible. But if the other people are emailing you using outlook with gmail and you likewise, they can configure their emails to get return receipts, to which you click (while using outlook) on and they get their return receipts. Now if the Google guys could also think of such.....
