Does crochet thread have to be 100% cotton?

I only use cotton when I'm making dish cloths. But I use silk blends for scarfs and hats. You can also use wool blends for afghans.

Crochet can be done with anything, it does not have to be cotton but cotton is easier to find and cheaper. If you mean embroidery thread then it does not have to be cotton but that is the most common and may be the cheapest. Polyester, or plastic tinsel is also used.

No, they have so many different types now. They have ribbon and all kinds of wools and acrylics. Go to a kniiting specialty store and check it out!
