Yes, the overdrive does save gas. The over drive allows the engine to turn over slower which means less fuel is needed to keep the car running, so it is more efficient. If you are towing with a truck you want to stay out of over drive because the overdrive gear is weaker and you could damage it.

It depends on the terrain you are driving across. In the mountains it doesn't save gas because the engine is working much harder, on flat land yes it does.

Yes an overdrive feature on transmissions is designed to run the engine at a lower rpm level and save fuel. When overdrive is engaged, the transmission does not slow the car down as much and the rpm level is signifigantly reduced from what it would be if overdrive was off.

Overdrive translates to a high gear. In order to achieve gas saving use overdrive only if you are running at speeds between 40 and 60 mile per hour on a flat surface only after a smooth acceleration. However, gas saving is actually very subject in a sense. Gas saving requires driver's patience and discipline.

Yes it does. The overdrive basically maintains the vehicles speed at a lower RPM's through a set of transmission gears. The lower the RPM's the less gas the engnine consumes.

Yes it does. For example if you car was in a 1:1 gear it could increase the ratio to something like 1:1. 5. Making the axle turn faster than the engine.
