Does AAA recognize an international driving permit?

Well they can but usually it's discretionary. I think you can only use the driving permit for up to 30 days in the country but you need to apply for the us driver's test. Only that can be used for insurance purposes.

The AAA recommends that one apply for an international driving permit, using their services, before driving in another country. This way you will have an official document recognized in 150 countries. It is printed in English and eleven other languages. Since AAA recommends and issues it, they definitely recognize it.
