Do you need to take a Suburban in to service when the four wheel drive light comes on?

The light for my four wheel drive has been on for some time now, I am concerned that something serious is going on but do not have the money to go to the shop.

If it is older than a 98 there is a sensor that was deffective in those year models. you can do it your self for 125. 00 Its the transfer case engase switch its on the front of the transfer case. unplug it and twist it out with a wrench.

It depends on exactly what the light means. It sounds more like a light to tell you you have engaged four wheel drive so you don't leave it on all the time. Try turning it off and see if the light goes away. Otherwise look in you manual for information.

You don't have to take it in to the shop to have it looked at but it is a good idea to have it inspected.

No, usually when your drive light does come on it is some kind of light malfunction. A lot of other Chevy's have the same problem that your are currently having.
