Do you have to claim wages that were paid under the table to the IRS?

I was paid cash for several jobs and want to make sure I do not have to claim the income.

Any source of income that you recieve, you need to report to the IRS. If you are caught, you will be fined heavily and possibly go to jail.

Under federal tax law, you are required to report ALL wages to the IRS, whether a W-2 (employee income tax) or 1099 (contractor employment) form was filed by the employer or if it was paid cash to you by whomever you worked for. Legally, you must report it even if paid under the table.

Yes, cash paid for your services is income to you. You should report this income on a schedule C and include any applicable expenses against the income such as supplies, milage, tools, office expenses, and any other expenses associated with earning the income. You need to pay income taxes and selfemployment taxes on the net if over $400.

First off. That's why people pay you under the table, to avoid you having to pay taxes. However since you are not the brightest crayon in the box the IRS could track your IP address if they see this question posted and go after the taxes for the money!!!
