Do you have to be born in the United States to run for president?

There is a requirement in the Constitution that the President has to be a natural born citizen. That is why there was some controversy about the election of President Obama where even though he was born in Hawaii from an alien father, there are problems producing his birth certificate.

Technically not to run but you do have to be born in the United Stated to be the president as laid out in the Constitution. If you ran and won but were not born in the US, you could not be the president.
