Doing humanitarian work does not require faith. You can have a heart that cares for the basic needs of humanity without having a belief in a divine creator. But being a missionary is more than humanitarian work. Missionaries are specifically working toward sharing their faith with those they are helping.

They often go hand in hand, but don't necessarily have to. Many people enter missionary work due to family social pressure. People are people.

You can have either one of these things without the other. Sometimes missionary work is the byproduct of faith. Once you accept Jesus, your behaviors will change.

It is possible. People might accept a mission in order to travel or escape from a bad situation at home.
