Dental spacers separates your teeth to make it easier for the braces to go on. Once the braces are on, then the dental spacers are removed.

Not all dentist use spacers. Although it is a very common practice to do so. The spacers do exactley what they say; they provide space that is needed to place the bands around your teeth.

That depends on how tight your teeth are. Spacers are generally used between molars where rings are used. Glue-on brackets usually don't require spacers.

That all depends on the orthodontist that is doing the braces. They have a plan and will have their own reasons for why they do things in the order they choose. But I can see why they are doing the dental spacers. It creates space for the ring to go around the tooth before the braces are put on.
