It depends on what you mean by "work". They raise the compression ratio of an engine. This in turn increases horsepower but also require a higher octane fuel.

Flat top pistons are produced for a reason, they do work! If you don't know what you're doing, however, you should not install them. If you're doing an engine rebuild, stick with whatever your shop is recommending for longevity.
