Do employment agencies help at all?

I signed up with one, and they haven't even contacted me to say "hello".

Employment agencies really only work when the unemployed individual is proactive during the relationship. You need to contact them regularly and inquire about possible work situations available for you.

While employment agencies can help in a job search, they are more geared towards one of two employees. Either labor, or white collar jobs. If you fall in between, you would be better suited to do your own footwork and save the money.

I'm sure they do. Maybe there hasn't been a job with your qualifications come up yet. Everyone right now is having some trouble getting work.

Yes, but it depends much more of your resume and what employers want, they can help but they are not the solution, when you least expect you will be contacted.
