Well basically if you want to get rid of them there are two options. You can basically just swat them off the tree and then apply an insect killer all over the tree as well. I would recommend using raid and it will get rid of the caterpillars in no time.

Buy insecticidal soap and mix 3qt with 1 qt water in a bucket. Scrap the caterpillars in the bucket then put a bug zapper up to prevent more.

Put lime around the trees where they are coming from that will start then check with the greenhouse to complete ridding yourself of them.

The only way to be totally rid of them is to call pest control they will spray them otherwise you have to cut the limb from the tree and burn the worms and their nests.

Calling your local nursery or landscaping specialist would be the best but you could always pick up your own solution at a gardening store, wich may be the most cost effective.

you can try burning newspaper pages and the smoke will get rid of them, or getting a hose to water the plant and it will kill them.

I suggest that if you are really upset by this you inflict some pain on them, throw some gasoline on the walnut tree and light it on fire.
