Make sure the sensor is free of any dust and debris, set your volt meter to the Ohms setting and measure resistance between terminals, turn the ignition on in your car, set the meter to volts and blow into the air flow meter and make sure that the voltage fluctuates.

By using a code reader available at an auto parts store, you can find out if there is a problem with your sensor. However, the best and most reliable way to have it tested is by using an oscilloscope. If you do not have one, you can have the part tested in a shop for a fee.

Yes, you can borrow tools from many home improvement stores where a testing meter should be available. A professional can plug into the unit and read codes to determine efficiency. Or you can use cheescloth over air flow vents to determine proper capacity and range.

A special MAF cleaner can purchased from any local parts place (such as CRC part #05110). It should cost you about 5-8 dollars. Follow can instructions & remember NEVER EVER EVER touch the two small wires in the MAF once you have found and removed it from the intake tube.

When the sensor is working correctly, your volt meter will sense a change in voltage or ohms. Attach leads to sensor output. Check for fluctuations as air fluctuates. If there is no change, your air flow sensor is not working. Check schematic to determine type of feedback. Start at high range and adjust as required.
