Can you take legal action against a city that gave out your personal info to someone other than your family?

You may have recourse if you can prove that you suffered provable, substantial harm. Unless you are a minor, no information should be released to anyone for any reason.

If they gave your information to a debt collector, no. If they gave financial information to neighbors, yes. If they listed tax roll information, no.

No, it is not possible always. If the personal information has been given without any legal binding to someone other than the family then we can sue for the same. But if the information has been passed to the law enforcing agencies or the taxation authorities, then the anwer is strictly NO.

This depends on the information given out. If you were convicted of a criminal action, certain information is public record. It is my judicious opinion that any information the city would be privy to is already public information. If the city gave out information that was part of privileged or private records, you can ask an attorney to take action.
