Can you rent an apartment with bad credit and rental history?

I can pay now but am afraid my history will haunt me.

The depends on the apartment, the landlord and the rental market. If the apartment is very nice, or if apartments are in great demand, landlords will prefer tenants with good credit history. If the landlord is having trouble renting the apartment, he may just take what he can get and allow a tenant with some bad history to rent.

Leasing agents can work around bad credit with a great security deposit and perhaps a co-signer. A negative rental history or eviction will, however, make it very difficult for you.

You can find individual landlords that will give you a chance to prove yourself, but many will look at the rental history to make their decisions.

You can always rent an apartment, but the quality places (professionally run / larger) will pull your credit report and turn you away based on your history. Anyone can view your credit history, and how bad is 'too bad to rent to' is entirely subjective.

I believe so; however, you'll most likely need someone to co-sign for you.
