Have him or her help you pick out the paint. Get a paint that has a low odor and washable. Pick a couple of colors for the room. Make is a plain color and use decorations to dress it up. Pictures, curtains, girly or boy related items.

A semigloss paint is much more washable and durable for a child's room. Many brands also have a low odor formula for use in such areas.

Before picking a color remember your child will only like the color for so many years till he outgrows it. If you don't want to have to paint often then I would choose a neutreal color so the child can grow into it. Donate old toys to clear the room.

That would Depend on the child's age. When it can't make his or her own choice, keep it soft. Toddlers don't want too many impulses. Older kids will tell you.
