Can you help me with planning a welcome party?

The party is for a new co-worker.

Use the party as an opportunity for your new coworker to get to know you. Have a scavenger hunt around the office. Have a "get to know you" gave where people tell funny stories about themselves. Give the person a gift certificate for a local cafe.

Try making the workplace or company the theme: Use colors (in a logo or other use, eg school colors) for papergoods and decorations. Some products make great themes. Make any gifts relevant to the work. An alternative is a "Welcome Aboard" theme using ship, train or plane decor.

You should decorate, but not too much stuff, then get a cake or some snacks to be eaten. Have everyone make introductions and whoever is in charge should give a welcoming speech too.

If your workplace is a funny tradition, then you should include that tradition with the party. Play some games to get to know each other better. If you know the co-worker well enough, personalize the party to her taste. If she likes Snoopy, make it a Snoopy themed party!
