Autism is actually a form of PDD, which I believe you are referring to. PPD stands for "pervasive developmental disorder". A person diagnosed with PDD may have difficulties in speech, any type of social interaction, repetitive/compulsive actions, etc. However, a person with PDD may be considered to have a "high functioning" form of autism.

In my eyes Autism is Autism. Your relative has a mild form of autism. He/she can fuction in society with the help of others. Please remember that this is just a name not who the person is.

It is probably not the worst thing that could happen. It can be diagnosed very early even in age of 11 month. Child is very frighten, crying all the time and very attached to a parent, specially mother. That child can have almost normal life,( exp. go to school)but unfortunately never totally independent.

I hope you mean Pervasive Development Disorder or PPD. It is a kind of autism which, according to a psychologist, is very mild. Children who have it will likely recover and most of the symptoms will disappear by the age of 10.
