Oral herpes is known as herpes simplex 1 (or "cold sores") and is caused by a virus. Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease, but also caused by herpes simplex, but type 2.

Yes, herpes can affect your mouth. It is called labial herpes and can be contracted only by having a contact with the pus of a lesion. There is no treatment that can eradicate the virus in ones body but some treatments can diminish the apperance of the herpes lesion near the mouth.

Technically, you can. Cold sores are a virus in the herpes family. So, if you get fluid from someone's cold sore on your mouth, it will transfer the virus and you will get a cold sore of your own. It cannot be cured, so you are stuck with that cold sore.

Yes, you can get herpes in your mouth but it is not the strain of herpes associated with Genital Herpes. Genital Herpes is classified as Herpes Simplex 2, while Herpes Simplex 1 is the strain found around the mouth.

Certainly: Herpes is a virus and most sufferers find that outbreaks come and go. Stress, including emotional upheaval but also including lots of sunshine, acidic foods, etc. can cause it to flame up. The most common oral herpes symptom is cold sores.
