Can you drive long distance if you have transmission problems?

I need to drive about 8 hours.

Transmission problems vary so it's hard to say. First, I wouldn't drive over 55mph and don't push the car to any limits. Second, have a 'chase car' (someone to follow). Third, have a cell phone handy. But, the safest bet is to rent a travel trailer and tow your car to your destination.

That depends on what type of problem and how much damage you've done to the transmission. If it's just leaking a bit of transmission fluid, fill it up and go ahead. Otherwise I would avoid an eight hour trip. You could get stranded.
