Question by  beetfc (1)

Can you diagnose me if I have developed a red itchy patch on my skin that does not follow the line of a vein?

I have had DVT about 8 years ago. 3 weeks ago my leg got very swollen and is still slightly swollen. It is not at its worst in the morning but at night. The area is very itchy. Can this be something other than post phlebetic leg?

The red itchy area could be cellulitis which is inflamation and/or infection of the skin. This condition requires antibiotic therapy. It is best to see your doctor about this condition as cellulitis can get worse or spread. It could also be a dermatalogic condition or perhaps a more serious condition including a blood clot.

You could be having and allergic reaction to some of the medicine that you have taken for your problem. Call your doctors office first thing in the morning and ask to speak to the nurse. She will be able to guide you in the right direction for the rash that has came up on your leg.

Three weeks is a long time for your leg to be swollen. Swelling is a sign something could be wrong. It could be a spider bite or some other type of insect bite or it could be something more serious you might want to call your doctor and see what they want you to do.
