Cats can take long term Cosequin supplements. The only side effect that has been reported is a slight decrease in platelets, although it is insignificant.

Cosequin is great for joint pain and arthritis, and as far as I'm aware there are no long term health concerns with this product. This product is labeled for every day use, and is almost always prescribed for lifetime use when a joint or mobility problem is diagnosed by your Veterinarian.

In general Cosequin is safe for long term use. Like all medications it can have side effects. The benifits of taking it usually outways the side effects.

Your cat should only take Cosequin for as long as the vet recommends it. Any improper usage of Cosequin could undoubtedly be detrimental to your cat's health, much like long term aspirin usage can be detrimental to a human's stomach.
