You should check with your doctor about any specific medications that you require, but as a general rule, it is a bad idea to take any medicine while breastfeeding, because it is not well known what chemicals are passed to your infant. Xanax in particular would be potentially VERY harmful for your child, so it would be best not to.

It is not recommended and should be discussed with your doctor. As Xanax has some pretty serious side affects that can pass through the breast milk to the baby.

Basically anything that you ingest can be absorbed into your breast milk and ingested by the baby. You should always consult your doctor before taking medications if you are pregnant or you are breast feeding. A lot of medicines are fine for the baby to ingest but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Always consult your pediatrician concerning any medication you take while breastfeeding. Don't drink, smoke or take any medication while pregnant or nursing without telling your healthcare provider. You don't want to risk your baby's health.

Typically you are not really supposed to take any medication while breastfeeding because it can be passed on to your child through your milk. I would think that you probably shouldn't take Xanax while breastfeeding, but the best way to find out the right answer is to consult your doctor.

Yes. Xanax is classified as a L3 level medication, meaning it has not been shown to cause any long term ill effects on the baby.

No. The Xanax will be absorbed through your breast milk into your baby's system. It will be like your baby is taking Xanax too.
