Yes you can save gas by driving in neutral. The misnomer is that neutral uses absolutely zero gas which is incorrect. Changing into neutral still has the motor running which runs gas. You do save a little gas by not having to hit the pedal which means no additional gas is being used.

Typically, a car cannot be driven in neutral. The motor will run but the car will not move. You will also do considerable harm top your engine if you push down the accelerator while the engine is running with the car in neutral for an extended period.
