The short answer is yes you can. We had two doves before and they were fine pets. The only issue is that we had a male and a female, and the female tended to get egg bound alot (couldn't pass her eggs). We had to take her to the vet quite often and it was expensive.

Doves make great pets. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to take care of. Two popular common breeds, with variations in these categories, are the Ringneck Dove and Diamond Dove.

Doves make lovely pets. You can keep them in a habitat called a dovecote on your roof. Because doves are related to pigeons, they have an ability to find their way home. Some people hire out their doves for weddings and affairs of state. Once released, they fly home again.

Not true! Check out the American Dove Association web page. It's white homing pigeons that are released at weddings and such. Doves don't have the homing instincts and are not strong flyiers  add a comment
