Those who are receiving disability benefits in most cases cannot also receive unemployment benefits immediately after the disability benefits run out. This is true because in order to qualify for unemployment benefits you must be able to accept and perform work and actively seeking employment.

I think you get unemployment benefits and then disability. Disability takes a long time and many visits to the doctor to prove that you disability.

The laws are different in all states, so it would depend on where you live. In Indiana you must be unemployed due to no fault of your own and be able to hold down a job. There are also requirements on how much income you have had in the last year.

Unless the disability (whether workman's compensation or not) cost you your job or if you lost a job held while on disability, the answer is usually no. Unemployment benefits are tied to being employed.

You can only get unemployment benefits if you have a current work history. Because you were on disability, you probably have no work history to pull from so you have no employers to file against for unemployment.
