Speak to the attorney who advised you of your position as executor. S/he can advise you of the various options you have in this role.

This should not be a problem in most states. There are many out-of-state executors to an estate except possibly within the state of Virginia where an in-state executor is required to handle an estate.

If you are the executor of an estate and need to travel or will be unavailable to serve as the executor, then you can give another power of attorney to serve in your place.
