Some chargers are capable of charging multiple types of batteries however, before attempting to do so it is always recommended that you refer to the users manual to see if your battery and charger are compatible.

Yes it can charge the battery. Try it today and see if it works. If it does not, then there is a defect in the charger.

Kaboom! No, older Nickel-Cadmium battery-chargers are not safe to use with Nickel-Metal-Hydride-batteries. There are newer-battery-chargers which charge several-different-rechargeable-battery-types, usually including Ni-Cad & Ni-MH battery types; Some require manual-battery-type-selection, some have automatic-battery-type-selection. Each kind of rechargeable-battery requires different charging conditions, many battery-types can explode or rupture if improperly charged (like charging with the wrong charger/parameters).

Both types of batteries use electricity to charge, the only difference is the strength of the electricity. If the amperage and the voltage are the same, then theoretically it would charge, although they have different plugs.

It can but the life of the battery may not be as long as if you had the correct charger for it.

No. A nickel metal hydride battery uses a different charging algorithm and could be damaged if charged in a charger designed for nicad batteries.

A NiCd charger should not be used as an automatic substitute for a NiMH charge. In general, a constant-voltage charging method cannot be used for automatic charging. When fast-charging, it is advisable to charge the NiMH cells with a smart battery charger to avoid overcharging, which can damage cells and cause dangerous conditions.
