Amputating your toes will sometimes affect your balance. The pinky toes are especially important when it comes to balance. Your big toes help you jump.

As with all amputations, "phantom" feelings may result. In addition, loss of toes will likely affect balance and gait, possibly causing pain or stres on kness and back in a differnt pattern than previously. If diabetes is an issue, infection or slow healing may also be a side effect. Careful monitoring and perhaps rehab may both be required.

If you are getting your toe amputated because of an injury then you'll have to deal with possible infection and depending on the toe balance issues. The big toe and the pinky toe of the foot help with balance. If it was caused by diabetes then you may have problems healing the amputation site.

Surgery always involves a bit of risk, however routine. Losing some toes would require an adjustment and some time to get used to.
